Social Networks: LibraryThing

Well, now there are two things that I'm hooked on: the first was Bloglines and the RSS feeds and the second is LibraryThing. I love the simplicity and clarity of the interface--it's so easy to use, without a lot of gimmicks. It's fun to see how many others have books in common with me and I'm looking forward to good reading recommendations. I'm also going to use it to share reading recommendations with family and friends. Here's a link to my LibraryThing: http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php

Week 5 of Learning 2.0 Social Networking Sites

I think it's a great idea for libraries to explore the use of social networking sites to reach new patrons and old patrons in a new way. I've seen the popularity of these sites on a personal level with my two teenage sons. They love MySpace and use it every day for multiple hours (if I let them). There use of email has declined as a result. I'm looking forward to setting up my own account and maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll be added as one of their friends.

Learning 2.0 Week 4

RSS feeds are great! I'm always looking for shortcuts to get at the info I want and this is a perfect tool for that. I've subscribed through Bloglines and found the easiest way to find what I wanted was by using their search tool. I added feeds for my favorite finance guru, Jane Bryant Quinn, KUOW's The Beat Book Reviews, Monster Crochet, KCLS Learning 2.0, and Darlene's Blog (a KCLS staff participant). I still need to add a couple library-themed blogs but want to take some time to investigate for quality. I think this will be helpful for professional developement.

Exploring Flickr Mashps

Hmmmm...very interesting. I played around with Montager (using the tag "cats" and "crochet"), with Flickr Sudoku, and Trading Card Makr. Very creative applications but I guess I'm more into usefulness and I wasn't really enticed to spend a lot of time there. Maybe some inspiration will come to me the more we explore 2.0.

Uploading from Flickr

I think this is such a sweet picture. I can almost feel the warmth and relaxation that this cat's experiencing. I have been pining away for a kitty since mine died a number of years ago. My husband is the holdout, though, not caring much for pets. I'm still working on him and hope he'll come around this spring.

I found this pic on Flickr and saved it to my desktop. Then it was easy to upload using Blogger's Add Image tool.

Learning 2.0 Week 2

I've completed the first 4 things and recorded them in the Progress Log. I've also registered my blog but I'm not in the participants list. Did I do something wrong or does it just take awhile?
